Permanent Connection
You can “hardwire” the motor for any of 3 modes:
MODE 1: Highest Top Speed
This gives the greatest top speed. Depending on the topography where the vehicle will be operated, you may want to have your motor in a permanent high-speed mode. This is suitable when the hills are mild and the vehicle does not have oversized tires or low gear ratio rear-ends.
MODE 1: Connections
- Connect system leads to S1 terminal and S2 terminal as normal.
- Connect S1 terminal to LR1 terminal using a short jumper lead.
- Connect S2 terminal to LR2 terminal using a short jumper lead.
*Note (S1and S2 terminals should have 2 leads connected.)
MODE 2: Lower Top Speed – average Ultimate torque
This gives slightly slower top speed, but improves the ability to climb hills over Mode 1or do other stressful activities where great speed is not a requirement.
MODE 2: Connections
- Connect system leads to S1 and S2 terminals as normal.
- Leave LR1 and LR2 terminals open… no connections.
MODE 3: Lowest Top Speed – greatest Ultimate torque
This gives slightly slower top speed, but improves the ability to climb hills or do other stressful activities where great speed is not a requirement.
MODE 3: Connections
- Connect system leads to S1 terminal and S2 terminal as normal.
- Connect S1 terminal to LR2 terminal using a short jumper lead.
- Connect S2 terminal to LR1 terminal using a short jumper lead.
*Note (S1and S2 terminals should have 2 leads connected.)
Switchable Connection
If it is desirable to switch between modes on the fly, this can be accomplished through the use of an EXTRA forward/reverse switch common to most golf cars. EMP has instructions for the application of a Club Car Forward/Reverse switch and instructions for the connection. Both a mounting template and an Instruction sheet are included with these instructions.
This type of arrangement is convenient when the use of the vehicle varies widely. For instance, if normal use is 1 rider on flat ground, then the vehicle could be kept in the MODE 1 (high-speed setting). However, if intermittent higher loading (multiple passengers, very hilly conditions) is encountered, switching to MODE 3 will protect motor and decrease the rate of battery drain.
IMPORTANT: If switch is to be used, it is necessary to remove the jumper leads on motor provided by EMP for the permanent connection. (Leaving Jumper leads in place will not allow proper current flow and will not yield best results.)
Use of Extra Club Car F/R Switch to enable Speed or Torque Modes**
Instructions
- Connect provided leads as shown. Note that flag terminal with smaller hole attached to F-R Switch. Note that connections “1”, “2”, and “3” require 1/4-20 screw and nut. Connections to “A” and “B” require #10-24 screws.
- Connect leads to motor studs as indicated
- Please note that you will now have 2 leads connected to motor S2 and S1 studs.
- Mount F/R switch in Golf Car so that handle is in accessible location. Please note that in position shown, motor will be in TORQUE (lo speed) mode. The other switch position is HI Speed Mode.
